Captain’s Log 41 (Beware of the Phish!)
A new kinda phish: The WGA Phishing Scheme
Apparently some jokers have found a new way in clowning you out of your money (granted you are a sucker for these stupid tricks). I know, you delete the suspicious e-mails, don’t click on the unknown links, and guard your SSN with your life but lets presume you are using Windows XP and you stumble upon this “Windows Activation” page:

You slap your head, “Crap” you say, “I’ve already done this once! Geeze, what does Microsoft want now?”
Slow down tiger, that isn’t from Microsoft!
If you proceed to the next page you get this screen:

Exactly. That isn’t from Microsoft. Do you see what is wrong with this picture? Just in case you DON’T see what is wrong look at my next slide, I’ve circled in red what is wrong and in yellow I’ve even circled “Microsoft’s” re-assurance to you to give over your information:

Microsoft DOES NOT ASK FOR YOUR CREDIT/DEBIT/BANK/WHATEVER information on a legitamate activation screen.
THIS IS NOT REAL This is called a Phish or Phising attempt. It is an attempt to get your information in order to defraud you. Be very, VERY careful about whom you give your personal information over to, the folks that make these are very sly, so be on guard!
