Blackberry OS 4.2.2 Applications on 4.2.1 OS
EDIT/UPDATE: There is an update to this article at the end.
Ok, here is the quick, slipstreamed version of what I’m doing. I am attempting to load OS 4.2.2 on my Blackberry 8700 using the installer for the Blackberry 8707. I have been working through the night either searching for OS 4.2.2, OS 4.3, or looking for the core files for the 8700 4.2.2 install with no luck and attempting to modify the installers to keep the 8700 4.2.1 OS “additional installers” while only replacing the core files and still no luck. I made some advancements. You can see in the pictures below I am getting an error message when I attempt to load up the final package of files to the 8700.
BUT I DID GET OS 4.2.2 MemoPad to load onto my Blackberry 8700 running 4.2.1 OS and it works! I dunno how or why it worked but it did. After modifying so many files and having lost track of where I was I deleted both the 8707 and 8700 (as well as 8300 [was comparing files]) from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\ directory. I reloaded the 8700 OS from AT&T onto my 8700 then I installed the 8707 version. When I plugged my Blackberry into my laptop and started Blackberry Desktop Manger 4.3 it found and installed Memo Pad 4.2.2 and it even displays in the “Applications” menu under the “Advanced Options” on my 8700c.
I’m going to keep looking around to get the complete 4.2.2 OS files (both core AND application) on my 8700c. It sure would be a cool Christmas present! … first person with 4.2.2 on the 8700c :p
Here are the rest of the files with the failed attempt of loading the complete OS core files from the night of the 23rd.
EDIT/UPDATE: Read the entire article first before diving into this. I found out that you can manually load the .alx applications into the 8700c from the 8707 installation files but going to “Application Loader” and manually selecting the 8707 .alx files. Still don’t know why BDM 4.3 installed automatically the memopad but I’m in the process of doing everything else manually.
