New Orleanians Take Note
Among security cameras popping up around the city at different intersections (I will not be posting the locations of those, you can find those yourself next time you drive around) the city of New Orleans is installing Red Light Cameras and the next time you run the red light at Earhart & South Carrollton Ave or Palmetto and South Carrollton you might just get a ticket.
It appears that there is a red light camera facing in the direction of Notre Dame seminary pointed at the intersection of Earhart and South Carrolton. I’ll try and get a picture of it sometime and put on here. You shouldn’t be running red lights to begin with, but now you might just get a ticket if you do it.
I’m surprised WDSU or WWL hasn’t had a news story on it yet. Jefferson Parish publicly announced theirs. Good job New Orleans! Maybe people will start stopping for red lights. Hopefully these are only two in many cameras going up around the city. I am glad to see the city is taking action to stop these clowns from running lights. Now, if only they had STOP sign cameras ![]()

Back in July of 2007, the City of New Orleans made a statement on their website concerning these cameras:
“OPERATIONAL DEPARTMENTS CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATES WEEK OF 7/20
NEW ORLEANS, LA (July 20, 2007) – Next week, the Department of Public Works will update citizens on the progress of the red light camera contract. Approximately 20 systems of red light cameras will be installed on traffic intersections throughout the city. These automated devices collect evidence authorities need to prosecute speeders. The department will announce the award of the public bid for this contract.”
