HELP! Extracting SATA Drivers Without A Floppy

Are you trying to slipstream SATA/RAID drivers into your installation CD but the executable wants you to “Make A Floppy”?

Get with the program PC manufacturers. NOBODY uses a floppy anymore!

Here is how I extracted my SATA/RAID drivers for the Gateway CX2610 Tablet PC when making a Windows XP Slipstream CD (or just reinstalling Windows without an OEM partition):

  • Download and install WINRAR from http://www.rarlab.com/ NOT winrar.com!
  • Download the drivers from your manufacturer’s website. For me this was Gateway Notebook Intel SATA Support Driver Version: 5.0.0.1032. These drivers come in an executable (.exe) file.
  • Right-click on the .exe and select “Extract To [file name here]”

  • Open the newly created folder. In my case I have en executable and a text file.

  • In Windows XP go to “TOOLS”, “FOLDER OPTIONS”, select the “VIEW” tab, and uncheck “HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES”. Click “ok” and go back to the folder.

  • Rename your .exe file (that you extracted) from .exe to .rar (which is a WinRAR file type). You should get a warning message about changing file extensions, click YES.

  • Right click on the newly renamed .rar file and do the same as before, “Extract To [file name here]“. As you can see in the picture I’ve done this and it created a folder. Inside of that folder I now have a .IMA file.

  • Go to the web and download and install Magic ISO at http://www.magiciso.com/download.htm
  • Once installed, open MagicISO and go to “FILE”, “OPEN” and navigate to the folder where the .IMA file has been extracted and open it with MagicISO.

  • Select all of the newly opened files, right click on them and select “EXTRACT” then extract the files to your folder of choice.

There ya have it! SATA/RAID drivers extracted from a “Make A Floppy” executable. Good luck with your slipstream or whatever you decide to do with your SATA/RAID drivers :->
