HI John,
I came by your post at Broadbandreports.com in reference to your problem with RDP dying over the Edge Firebox. I’m wondering whether you fixed this up. I was at the Dr’s tonight and he has two DSL devices going into A watchguard Edge Firebox. As seems to be the case if anyone knows you work with computers I spent some of my visit there discussing his computer problems! Anyway had a scan around the net and your post appeared. Do you have the answer so I can put this guy out of his misery? His surgery keeps losing its RDP connections randomly.

I sent this same reply to you in an e-mail so use that if you need to post specifics such as a specific IP address or something… don’t post it here on the blog
I think you found my blog from this link: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18930740-W2K-RDP-kills-VPN
Ok first what is the exact model of his Firebox?
Secondly, if it is a Firebox Core or X series then VPN’ing directly to the Firebox should solve the issue. If it is a VPN tunnel through the firebox then check and make sure the VPN server he is connecting to isn’t kicking him off. Can he VPN to the box and stay connected without using the VPN connection or does he connect and get disconnected whether or not he is using anything over the VPN tunnel?
You said he has two DSL lines to the Edge, which means he has two WAN connections. Which connection is he VPN’ing to? For example he should have IP address 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5 (one IP per WAN connection x two WAN connections). Are the WAN connections set for fail-over? (1.2.3.4 fails and 1.2.3.5 takes over) or is it set for round-robin (1.2.3.4 handles connection “A” then 1.2.3.5 handles connection “B” and so forth)?
